Play. Create.

I was invited by Designers Against Human Rights Abuse to participate in their Play. Create. fundraiser. The money raised would be to benefit Banardos.

I appeared as a Product Designer alongside Rolf Sachs, Max Lamb, ILoveDust and 2Creatives.

The brief was to customise a Kid Robot Munny doll which would be auctioned off at a party at The Book Club by Old Street.

Munny Clock

Determined, as we all were to use this as a chance to experiment and have fun, I decided to turn my Munny into a timepiece to use with a computer. A small USB stick was installed within, and a flash application would run off it.

I decided to make an ever-changing sky scene which would tell the user the time of day. I decided to get stuck in with Actionscript and programmed a sky which not only went through the cycle of the day, but also at the correct time, every day, all year round.

Dawn

Dawn emerges with yellowy reflections on the clouds, and a slither of the moon is still visible.

Day

By day, the sun moves across the sky in a parabola which alters dependant on the user's screen size.

The formula of a parabolic trajectory was a bit of a nightmare to apply, but worked in the end.

Dusk

At dusk the sky is a rich orange and the sun blazes as it dips behind the clouds.

Night

At night the moon reappears and random flickering stars are generated.

Very Pretty.

The Auction

We all had a fantastic time at the auction and a lot of money was raised.

I learned a lot of new skills in terms of Actionscripting things, which stood me in good stead for my final year at University.

The rest of the Dolls can be viewed on Play. Create. website and the Munny Clock will be available online shortly.
